Champions Trophy Last Chance For Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli: The careers of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the two most senior players of the Indian cricket team, are hanging in the balance. Especially due to his poor performance in the series against Australia, he is getting nothing but criticism from all over the world. Now the top-8 teams of the world are going to compete for the Champions Trophy. This ICC tournament will start from February 19, for which the Indian team has not been announced yet, but this could definitely be the last ICC tournament for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
1. BCCI has given ultimatum
This update has come out after the BCCI review meeting that at present no decision will be taken on the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. But it has become clear that the team management will keep a close eye on his performance in the three-match ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy. According to a report, if Virat and Rohit are not able to do well in the Champions Trophy, then BCCI will be forced to take a big and difficult decision on the career of both of them.
2. Virat-Rohit’s poor form is harmful for Team India
The last 2 test series have been very useless for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Captain Rohit was able to score 91 runs in 6 innings against New Zealand, whereas against Australia, he scored 31 runs with his bat in five innings. Virat’s condition is also not very good, he scored 93 runs in 6 innings against the Kiwi team and now only 190 runs against Australia. Virat has been able to score only 3 Test centuries in the last 5 years. Although both of them were the highest run scorers in the 2023 World Cup. But if their bat is not able to perform even in the Champions Trophy to be held in 50-over format, then perhaps the presence of Rohit-Virat in Team India may prove to be harmful in the long-term plan.
3. India has to set the target of World Cup and WTC 2027
The Indian team failed to make it to the final of the World Test Championship 2025. Now the new cycle of WTC will start from the month of June, while head coach Gautam Gambhir still has to prepare the blueprint for the 2027 World Cup. However, he has taken very good and concrete steps towards preparing the T20 team. But the decision on whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will remain in the team for the 2027 World Cup and WTC final can also be taken on the basis of the Champions Trophy.
