The number of internet users in India may cross 90 crore by 2025. According to the report of IAMAI and CANTA, the number of internet users would reach 886 million in 2024. It is registering an increase of 8% every year. The maximum increase has occurred in rural areas.
55% of the country’s total internet population (48.8 crore) is from rural India. Rural users are spending 89 minutes per day using the internet. Whereas, in cities this figure is 94 minutes.
The special thing is that 98% of the users of the country use internet in Indian languages. Of these, 57% is the urban population. Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, and Bengali are the most commonly used languages in cities. In the report, the use of Indian languages has been considered an important reason for the increase in internet usage.
53% men, 47% women use internet. 10.5 crore people use only cash on delivery while online shopping. Maximum 52% of these are women. One in five users uses a voice assistant to access the internet. Of these, 39% people are in the age group of 25 to 44. In 2024, 53% of internet users were men and 47% were women.
