Asim Arun, Minister with Independent Charge in Uttar Pradesh Government, has recalled the moments spent with Manmohan Singh. Before joining politics, Aseem Arun was an IPS officer. Remembering Singh on X, he wrote – ‘I was his body guard for almost three years since 2004. SPG consists of the innermost circle of PM’s security – the Close Protection Team which I had the opportunity to lead. AIG CPT is the person who can never stay away from PM. If only one body guard can stay then this guy will be with him. In such a situation, it was my responsibility to stay with him like his shadow.
Aseem Arun further writes- ‘Dr. Saheb had only one car – Maruti 800, which was parked behind the gleaming black BMW in the PM House. Manmohan Singh ji repeatedly told me – Asim, I do not like to travel in this car, my car is this (Maruti). I would explain that sir, this car is not for your luxury, its security features are such for which SPG has taken it. But whenever the carcade passed in front of Maruti, he would always look at it with all his heart. As if you are repeating the resolution that I am a middle class person and it is my job to worry about the common man. PM’s car worth crores is mine, this is Maruti.

In April 1948, Manmohan Singh took admission in Khalsa College, Amritsar. Mentioning this in his book, Daman wrote, ‘Since his father wanted him to become a doctor, he (Manmohan Singh) enrolled in a two-year F.Sc. course, which would have given him the opportunity to pursue further studies in medicine. He left his studies after a few months. He had lost interest in becoming a doctor. In fact, he had lost interest in studying science also.
