Jasprit Bumrah Captain Test: India vs Australia Sydney Test was just about to start, when the news came that Rohit Sharma has excluded himself from the playing eleven. In such a situation, head coach Gautam Gambhir holds a press conference, in which he confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will captain the Sydney Test. Under the captaincy of Bumrah, India won the Perth Test by 295 runs. If Bumrah had been bowling in the fourth innings of the Sydney Test, perhaps India would have won the Sydney Test, unfortunately Bumrah remained out due to injury.
As soon as Rohit was out of the Sydney Test, rumors of his retirement had gained momentum. On the other hand, speculations started being made that BCCI may very soon appoint Jasprit Bumrah as the permanent captain. But the speculations about Bumrah becoming the captain came to an end when Rohit Sharma made it clear in the review meeting that he still wants to remain the captain. Rohit also said that he will respect the decisions taken by the board in future.
Jasprit Bumrah will never be able to become captain?
Bumrah proved in the Perth Test that he can prove to be a good captain. But in the BCCI review meeting, when there was discussion on making Jasprit Bumrah the regular Test captain, the issue of his injury gained prominence. According to reports, there was no consensus among the team management on making Bumrah the captain. Since Bumrah’s bowling action is not much dependent on his run-up, rather he throws the ball with force from his shoulders and waist. Therefore, Bumrah is more likely to get injured compared to other bowlers.
Bumrah is still injured, there is doubt over his playing in the Champions Trophy due to swelling in his waist. In fact, the selectors and high officials of BCCI may also be hesitant about making Bumrah the captain due to his continuous injury. In such a situation, even if Bumrah is made the captain, if he gets injured in the middle of a series, then the question will remain that who will replace him? Due to all these aspects, perhaps Bumrah will never be able to become a captain.
