When did the Champions Trophy start
The ICC started the Champions Trophy in 1998, but was earlier known as the Nockout Trophy. The knockout trophy held in 1998 was won by South Africa, but when the tournament was held again in 2000, it was renamed as the Champions Trophy. So far, a total of eight times the Champions Trophy has been organized, in which India and Australia have won the title twice. At the same time, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan have won the title once.
Why are only 8 teams chosen?
As we told you that in 1998, ICC started this tournament called Nockout Trophy. For this reason, the format was made in 1998 that the first match of the teams was the quarterfinal. However, 9 teams participated in the tournament. But in the preliminary match, New Zealand defeated Zimbabwe and qualified for the quarterfinal stage. After that, the name of the knockout trophy has changed to the Champions Trophy, but the format of 8 teams has continued. According to the current format, she qualifies 8 teams for the Champions Trophy, which has been at the first 8 places in the ODI World Cup points table.
