Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -led central government of diverting attention from real issues and promoting the capitalists and said that the country drowned in hatred can never progress.
Gandhi urged people not to accept hatred and insisted that India was ‘always a country of love’.
Gandhi started his two -day visit to his parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli and interacted with party workers and youth in Bachhrawan. He then went to Jagatpur in Unchahar, where he unveiled the statue of Rana Beni Madhav Singh, the hero of the 1857 freedom struggle.
The Congress MP took a sarcasm on the media at a program.
He said, ‘I have to say that they (media) are our friends, but in fact they are friends of Modi (Prime Minister Narendra Modi), Adani and Ambani.’
Gandhi said, ‘This is because they do not talk about the public. Have you seen any news about farmers, laborers or inflation on TV? They will show you the weddings of Ambani and Adani, dance shows and watches worth Rs 15 crore.
He said, ‘His (media) job is to pressurize the government. If the government does something wrong, they justify it but they (media) are no longer doing their work properly.
Recalling the contribution of Rana Beni Madhav Singh and Bira Pasi in the rebellion of 1857, the former Congress president said that all the great men fighting for India’s independence fought for the Constitution and if the poor, laborers and farmers in the country today If you are raising voice, then it is because of the constitution.
He said, ‘This constitution is the voice of India. Gandhi, Ambedkar and Nehru gave this constitution. He fought the British and went to jail. Before him, Rana Beni Madhav Singh and Bira Pasi fought. They all fought for the Constitution. ‘
Gandhi said, ‘The duty of political parties is to save the constitution and also the media. But these days they (media) are not working to protect the constitution and that’s why I talked about him.
Accusing the country of ‘selling’, he said, ‘Airport, port, infrastructure, coal, railways, everything is being sold. Congress is fighting, I am fighting on the streets. But the media is not helping us. But we will fight and show you that we can win. ‘
He alleged, “Inflation has increased significantly and the BJP government is only promoting the capitalists.”
Referring to his India’s journey, Gandhi said, ‘A country which is divided and immersed in hate can never progress. So we traveled to India from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
He said, “From the sea to the mountains, we have given a message by covering a distance of 4000 kilometers, that it is not a hatred, but a country of harmony and love.”
The Congress MP urged people to stop the forces trying to divide India.
Addressing the gathering, Gandhi said, “It has been a country of love and will remain the same.”
He said that the country is currently facing two major challenges in the form of inflation and unemployment.
The Congress MP said, ‘I spoke to the youth here today. He asked him how many people are confident of getting jobs after obtaining educational degrees. Only one raised his hand. And he said that I will find a job somewhere. But 99 percent admitted that they would not get a job.
He said, ‘At this time two India are being formed, in which there are rich like Adani and Ambani on one side. They get what they want. During the Kovid epidemic, his loan of one lakh crore rupees was waived. His Rs 16 lakh crore bank loan has been waived. The second India is yours and mine. India of toiling masses, laborers, poor, farmers, unemployed youth. We do not want two India. If they can dream then you can also see. ‘
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi said that small and medium industries were ruined by the demonetisation move in 2016.
He said, ‘This policy was not only of Modi. With the connivance of people like Modi and Adani and Ambani, such policies are being made to eliminate small traders, farmers and laborers.
Gandhi said, ‘You can see its results. The youth of Uttar Pradesh are not getting jobs. You can get a job in Telangana or Karnataka, you can work there and work, but cannot get work in Uttar Pradesh, your government cannot do so. This is the truth that should be accepted.
He said, “On the one hand the BJP talked about winning more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha and then asked to change the constitution, but after this shock, Prime Minister Modi also succumbed to the Constitution.”
The Congress Parliament also alleged the increase in the number of voters in the Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections by disturbing it.
He said that his party sought clarification from the Election Commission, but he was not given the voter list.
He said, ‘So you can see what is happening in the country these days, this is politics. But we are not afraid of anyone. Congress is a party with ideology. Our party workers are our lions, who have this ideology in the blood.
Earlier in the day, former Congress President Churuva reached Hanuman temple on the border and then went to Bachhrawan, where he addressed the conference of party workers and urged him to maintain his hold at the booth level.
Meanwhile, some BJP workers claimed that he was placed under house arrest during Gandhi’s visit.
BJP division president Pravesh Verma alleged, ‘We were forcibly stopped at the Nagar Panchayat office with 25 workers. It is the responsibility of the MP to live here, listen to the problems of the people and solve them because the people of Rae Bareli have chosen him as their representative.
However, no confirmation was made by the police about this.
