Who is Sonam Wangchuk?
Sonam Wangchuk is a mechanical engineer and director of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIL). He was awarded the Magsaysay Award in the year 2018. Recently he attended the Global SSI Multi-Specialty Robotic Surgery Conference held in Gurugram. During this, he said about robotic surgery in a special conversation with the local 18 team, “It is very happy that such state -of -the -art technology is being brought in India. Better treatment will not be limited to the rich only, but even in small states of India, the poor will get the benefit. ” He also stated that the most important thing is that this technology has been developed in India itself. “
Praise of robotic surgery, but concern about AI
When Sonam Wangchuk was questioned in the medical field of AI Technology, he said, “AI is being used in every field in today’s time, and its role will increase further in future. But I believe that if complex operations are done by humans, it will be better, because AI is a machine-based technology. ” However, he praised robotic surgery and said, “In this, humans do surgery themselves, so it is not completely dependent on AI, which makes it more secure and reliable.”

Sonam Wangchuk, while discussing her innovation, said, “Every person should work for the environment around them. I am currently working on the rescue of Ladakh’s cold and water problem. Soon a new and effective solution will be revealed. “
