When progressive marginal farmer Gaurishankar Meena learned about the adverse effects of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on the human body through YouTube and other means, he thought of doing something different from traditional farming. Therefore, he resolved to adopt the schemes run by the Agriculture and Horticulture Department, advanced agricultural techniques as well as organic farming, so that not only his family but also the common consumer gets good health.
Vermicompost unit installed on 5 bigha land
He started vermicompost production through vermicompost unit on about 5 bighas of agricultural land in his village Gambhira. Along with this, instead of chemical pesticides, he prepared indigenous pesticides like Jeevamrit and Beejamrit from neem leaves, fig leaves etc. He used it on wheat and mustard crops which increased the yield. When he used vermicompost on the guava orchard, the results surprised him. Due to the use of vermicompost and indigenous pesticides, there was no infestation of insects or plant diseases in the garden, rather they got much more profit than before due to the production of sweet and shiny good quality guavas. Insecticides like Jeevamrit, Beejamrit etc. were prepared from Neem etc. and used on crops, due to which neither the fertility of the soil decreased nor there was any risk of disease like chemical pesticides. Along with this, he has not only done the important work of controlling the residue by spraying Waste De Composer on the standing crop residue but has also achieved good yield by converting it into manure. By using the crop rotation Trichoderma, PSB, Rhizobium, vermicompost, Neem insecticide, Jeevamrit, Beejamrit etc., the farmer has shown himself to be progressive and public-friendly.
