The Chief Tuhin Kant Pandey of the Market Regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India i.e. SEBI has described Indian markets as safe and strong. He also said that the fundamentals of Indian markets are also strong. Tuhin Pandey has said these things in an interview to Times of India amid the ups and downs in stock markets around the world.
Tuhin Pandey also told about his priorities as SEBI Chief. He said that his focus is on investment protection, market development and market regulation.
SEBI Chief said that he is trying to promote trust, transparency, technology and teamwork. Emphasized mutual trust between SEBI and its ecosystem. He said that matters related to the conflict of interest are being considered again.
Regulation should be according to risk
Tuhin Pandey said, ‘Regulation should be according to the risk. If the risk is high, more scrutiny is needed. If something can not be monitored at a fine level, then we should not fall into it. ‘ He said that the old rules will also be reviewed and measures will be taken to make them easier.
Tuhin Kant Pandey said that balance regulatory oversight is necessary with the Is of Doing Business. However, it should not affect the market entrance. New products are coming with market development. The Indian Capital Market is growing rapidly. There are many possibilities including energy futures in the future.
Our payment and settlement system strong
Regarding the ups and downs in the market, he said that our payment and settlement system is very strong. There is no possibility of any kind of default. Contracts are being honored. People can enter and exit the market without any problem.
Regarding the strong position of India, Tuhin said that the economy is going to grow at a rate of 6.5%. The government’s budget was promoting growth. Monetary policy saw softening. The trend of the IPO market remains strong. Several measures have also been taken by SEBI.
Tuhin became the new Chief of SEBI on 1 March
On March 1, Tuhin Kant Pandey was made the new Chief of SEBI. Tuhin will hold this position for the next 3 years. She has replaced former SEBI Chief Madhabi Puri Buch, which retired on 28 February.
Tuhin Kant Pandey is a 1987 batch IAS officer of Odisha cadre. He is one of the busiest secretaries in India in the Modi 3.0 government. They are currently handling four important departments in the central government.
