Pakistan In BRICS Group: Pakistan, which had hopes of getting membership in BRICS, has suffered a major setback. Due to India’s strong opposition, Pakistan was not only deprived of the membership of BRICS, but it also could not get a place in the list of partner countries. Meanwhile, Turkey has made significant gains by including itself in the list of BRICS partner countries.
Russia has recently announced 13 new partner countries. These countries include Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, Nigeria, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. These countries will become partner countries of BRICS from January 1, 2025. Pakistan, which was trying to enter BRICS with the support of China and Russia, failed to make its place in the list.
reason for turkiye’s success
It is believed that due to the change in the stance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the Kashmir issue, India did not oppose Turkey’s claim. On the other hand, Pakistan’s efforts to join BRICS failed due to India’s tough stance. Turkey’s success is an example of the importance of diplomatic flexibility and strategy. Pakistan will now have to reconsider its diplomatic efforts.
sharp criticism on pakistan
This failure of Pakistan is being severely criticized in its own country. Foreign affairs expert Marianna Babar called it a “complete failure” of Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry. He said that a country like Nigeria also performed better than Pakistan and became a BRICS partner country.
India’s tough stance in BRICS
To include new member countries of BRICS, the consent of all the founding members is required. India strongly opposed Pakistan’s claim, due to which the doors were closed for it. This happened when China and Russia tried to support Pakistan.
analysts opinion
Experts believe that Pakistan could have got economic and diplomatic benefits by joining BRICS. However, India’s tough stance and the weak strategy of Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry deprived it of this opportunity.
