
At least 66 people died and more than 50 were injured in a fire at a ski resort hotel in Turkey on Tuesday. The accident occurred when a fire broke out after midnight in a hotel located in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Bolu province. A restaurant runs on one floor of the building. Fire broke out in the restaurant. Local officials said, many people jumped from the hotel building in panic, due to which they died.
Bolu Province Governor Abdulaziz Aydin said that the cause of the fire is not yet clear, but the flames quickly engulfed the hotel.
On receiving information about the fire, fire brigade, search and rescue units and medical teams reached the spot. Fire brigade and rescue teams together rescued about 230 people.
Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç said that a judicial investigation has been launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bolu Province to investigate the accident. A committee of six public prosecutors and five experts has been formed in this investigation.
Kartalkaya resort is one of Türkiye’s major winter tourist destinations, attracting thousands of tourists during the ski season. The hotel has been a major hub for Turkish skiers since 1978.
The city of Bolu is a major city located between Ankara and Istanbul, and the area is known for ski tourism. Located on the peak of Koroglu Mountain, 38 km from Bolu city center, 180 km from Ankara and Istanbul, the Ski & Mountain Hotel covers an area of ​​60,000 square meters.
