9 Year Old Aarit Kapil Defeat Grandmaster: India’s Aarit Kapil created history at the age of 9. Arit Kapil has become the youngest Indian player to defeat a Grandmaster in the game of chess. He defeated Grandmaster Rasset Ziatdinov of the United States in a classical chess match.
Aarit Kapil, coming from Delhi, defeated the US Grandmaster in the IIT International Open held in Bhubaneswar at the age of 9 years, 2 months and 18 days. Arit won this victory during the ninth round of the tournament.
Arit Kapil, who became the youngest Indian to defeat the gangmaster, secured the third position in this list of the world. The record of defeating a Grandmaster at the youngest age in the world is held in the name of Singaporean Ashwath Kaushik of Indian origin. Ashwath Kaushik had defeated Jacek Stupa of Poland at the age of 8 years and 6 months.

Aarit had participated in the competition held at RPS International School, Gurugram, in which he had secured 183rd rank.

At the age of just 6, Aarit won the State Championship title by defeating a child two years older than him in the Under-8 Boys Delhi State Chess Championship.
