IndiGo has been the fifth consecutive month of Punctual airline.
India’s domestic air traffic has increased by 8.45% in April compared to the same month of last year. This is the slowest growth of this year. It was 8.79% in March and 11.04% in February. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation released the data today, ie on 21 May.
A total of 143.16 lakh passengers flew in April. This number was 145.42 lakhs in March. That is, the number of passengers has decreased by 2.26 lakhs. This decline is due to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. Air traffic in the northern and western states of India was interrupted after the attack.
Indigo at number one in market share, Air India stake increased
IndiGo remains number one with 64.1% market share. The market share was 64% in March too. In April, 91.72 lakh passengers traveled from the airline. This number was 93.09 lakhs in March. At the same time, the number of passengers in Air India was 38.9 lakhs, which is slightly more than 38.78 lakh in the previous month.

IndiGo was the most physical airline
IndiGo has been the fifth consecutive month of Punctual airline. Six Metro Arports i.e., punctuality has been extracted based on the on-time performance (OTP) of Scheduled Domestic Airlines for Six Metro Arport ie Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata.

- Akasa Air’s Pankchuality was 77.5%
- Air India Group’s punctuality was 74.2%
- Alliance Air’s on-time performance was 60.4%
- Spice Jet’s punctuality was 60%
Airlines’ on-time performance in March, after delay in flights due to heavy fog in December, January and February, improved. However, flight operations at Delhi International Airport were affected due to the Indo-Pakistan military conflict and temporary shutdown of the runway 10/28 after April 20.
Cancellation rose 0.8% compared to march
The overall cancellation rate of schedule for April 2025 was 0.64%, which is about 0.8% higher than 0.56% in March. But the cancellation rate of February and January is lower. The cancellation rate in February was 0.65% and 1.62% in January.
- Regional airline flybig had the highest 36% cancellation rate.
- Alliance Air finished second with a cancellation rate of 4.97%.
- SpiceJet finished third with a cancellation rate of 1.53%.
- IndiGo’s cancellation rate was 0.46% and Air India Group was 0.27%.
- Akasa Air finished sixth with a cancellation rate of 0.02%.
Weather was the biggest reason for cancellation of flights in April 2025. Last month, 38.8% of all flights were canceled due to meteorological problems. Technical, operational and other reasons caused 25.8%, 22.3% and 11.7% cancellations.
910 complaints received, all resolved
During April 2025, the airlines received a total of 910 passenger related compliments. In April, the number of complaints on 10,000 passengers has been around 0.64. The main reason for complaints is flight problems. All complaints have been resolved.
