Finland -based tech company Nokia has resolved patent disputes related to video technology with Amazon. On Monday, Nokia reported that a patent agreement has been reached between the two companies.
Under this, Amazon will now be able to use Nokia video patents in streaming services and devices. After this agreement, the two companies have withdrawn cases filed against each other. However, companies have kept the terms of the agreement secret.
Nokia’s video technology used without permission
The dispute started in October 2023. Nokia then filed a case on Amazon in the Patent Court of UK, Germany, India, America and Europe.
The Amazon was accused of unintentional use of prime videos and Nokia’s video compression, content delivery, recommendation and hardware patents in devices.
Nokia also filed a case on HP
Earlier, Nokia also filed a case on Tech Company HP (Hulet-Pacard) in the US court. This case was also related to permission without video technology. However, Nokia had reached an agreement with HP in October 2024.
Nokia has more than 20 thousand patents
Nokia has 20,000+ patents associated with video technology, which companies around the world use on licenses.
On the agreement with Amazon, Nokia said that the agreement shows the strength of their innovation and patent portfolio. However, both companies have not shared financial or technical details of the agreement. There is no response from Amazon.
