US to ban Chinese Drones: The United States may soon ban civilian drones made in China. The US Commerce Department said on Thursday (January 2, 2025) that it is considering new rules banning Chinese drones. The ministry cited America’s security concerns behind this step.
The department also said it is seeking public comments through March 4, 2025, on potential rules to protect the supply chain for drones. In which it was said, “These tools can provide our adversaries (China and Russia) with the ability to manipulate, which can lead to the leakage of sensitive American data.”
A large portion of commercial drones in America come from China
A large portion of commercial drones in America come from China. Commerce Department Secretary Gina Raimondo had said in September 2024 that her department could ban Chinese drones. Apart from this, their focus will also be on drones with Chinese and Russian equipment, chips and software. He said in November that he expected to finalize rules on Chinese vehicles by January 20.
Donald Trump will take the final decision on the matter
It is noteworthy that America’s newly elected President Donald Trump is going to take charge from January 20. In such a situation, the decision to write new rules to ban or ban Chinese drones will be taken by Donald Trump’s administration. Last year too, Washington took several steps to crack down on Chinese drones. At the same time, last month US President Joe Biden signed a law, which bans China’s DJI and Autel Robotics.
China’s largest drone manufacturer said
DJI, China’s largest drone maker, said, “If an agency does not complete the study, it will prevent the company from launching new products in the US.”
