Amul’s model works at three levels:
1. Dairy Co-operative Society
2. District Milk Union
3. State Milk Federation
- All the farmers of the village producing milk are members of the dairy co-operative society. These members choose representatives who manage the District Milk Union together.
- The District Union processes milk and milk products. After the processing, these products are transported to the market like Gujarat co-operative milk marketing Federation Limited Distributor.
- Professions are hired to manage the supply chain. About 1.5 million people get employment in milk collection, processing and distribution directly-indirectly.
- Amul’s model has become a case study in business schools. In this model, dairy is under the control of farmers. This model shows how the profit reaches the lowest part of the pyramid.
