Water Reservoir in Space : Astronomers have discovered a giant reservoir of water in another corner of the universe, located around a quasar 12 billion light years away from Earth. This huge distance indicates that the light we see today had set out on a journey after the birth of the universe. The size of this water reservoir found in the other corner of space is so large that it is estimated to contain 140 trillion times more water than the total water of all the Earth’s oceans. This reservoir of space water is located near a supermassive black hole.
Farthest water reservoir discovered
There is a quasar located around this black hole, named APM 08279+5255. This black hole produces so much energy that it is equal to one thousand trillion suns. According to astronomers, a quasar is the most distant and most massive reservoir of water ever discovered in the universe.
quasar is A.P.M. 08279+5255
Matt Bradford, a scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, who is leading the discovery team, said, “The environment around this quasar is quite unique because it is producing such a large amount of water.” “This is a sign that water is widespread throughout the universe,” Bradford said.
Bradford’s team and a separate team of astronomers investigated APM 08279+5255 and its central black hole. It was told that as the black hole attracts the surrounding objects towards itself, it also heats the gas and dust. This creates an area in which many types of elements are found. Scientists discovered quasars 50 years ago when they observed extremely bright sources in remote parts of space through telescopes.
