- Aviation Indigo Parent Interglobe Aviation Receives Rs 944 Crore Tax Penalty

The Income Tax Department has sent a penalty order of Rs 944.20 crore to Interglobe Aviation, the parent company of Indigo, the country’s largest airline. The company has imposed this penalty under the Income Tax Act 270A for 2021-22 Assessment Year at Exchange FILILIG on Sunday.
Along with this, the Joint Income Tax Commissioner of Chennai has also imposed a fine of Rs 2.84 crore on the company. IndiGo has described the penalty of income tax as baseless. The company said that the appeal filed against the assessment order under section 143 (3) is still pending, but the tax authorities assumed it as rejected and imposed a fine.
The company further stated that it will take a legal path in the matter and challenge this order. Penalty has no major impact on revenue, operation or business.
Earlier GST and Custom Department have also imposed fine
- On February 5, IndiGo received a tax demand notice of Rs 116 crore from the GST department. The company was then accused of disturbances related to input tax credit by officials in Delhi and Chennai.
- On 15 January, the Customs Department imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on jet fuel for additional fee.
- On January 6, the import of parts of the aircraft was fined Rs 2.17 crore.
Share climbed 13.91% in 1 month
IndiGo’s stock closed at Rs 5,100 on Friday at Rs 5,100. IndiGo has given a return of 13.91% in the last one month, 6.53% in six months. The company’s market capital is Rs 1.98 lakh.
89.4 lakh people traveled from Indigo in February
In February, most of the passengers traveled from IndiGo airline. 89.4 lakh passengers traveled from Indigo. After this, 38.3 lakh passengers sat in the flights of Air India Group. Traveling 6.58 lakh passengers with Akasa Air at number three.
Indigo’s market share is the highest 63.7%
India’s largest airline IndiGo was the country’s most beloved airline in the country for the third consecutive month. According to the February 2025 data from the Aviation Regulator Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), 80.2% flights of IndiGo were on time at metro airports like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Indigo’s market share was 63.7%.
