When India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri raised the issue of attacks on Hindus and minorities with Bangladesh on Monday (December 9, 2024), the Mohammad Yunus government got irritated and is calling it its internal issue. He says that when Bangladesh does not comment on the internal affairs of other countries, then other countries should also take care of it. It is inappropriate to make statements on our matters. Vikram Misri was on a visit to Bangladesh for 12 hours yesterday.
Vikram Misri spoke with the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) of Bangladesh and expressed concern about the attacks on Hindus. Expressing concern, he said that India is worried about the security of minorities, the way Hindu temples and religious programs have been attacked in the last few months, India has been hurt. On this, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Mohammad Jasimuddin says that this is an internal matter of Bangladesh and wrong news is being published in the Indian media regarding it.
According to Dhaka Tribune, Mohammad Jasimuddin said, ‘I also reminded that Bangladesh always avoids commenting on the internal affairs of other countries and hence it also wants the same respect from other countries.’ Mohammad Jasimuddin said that the trust between the people of Bangladesh and India has decreased and both the countries need to work to fill this gap. Jasimuddin alleged that the media was exaggerating things. He also says that he told Vikram Misri that wrong news is being spread in the media about Bangladesh.
Mohammad Jasimuddin said that there are wrong reports in the media regarding attacks on Hindus and that minorities were mistreated between July and August. Jasimuddin says that he has urged the Indian government to pay attention to this matter and take necessary steps. He also said, ‘We also emphasized that all religions in Bangladesh have the freedom to perform their rituals and customs. There is no room for confusion or misrepresentation here. The Bangladesh government has invited foreign journalists to see and observe the situation on the ground. However, he described the relationship with India as historic and said that Bangladesh is eager to work to strengthen relations with India.
