Change in Bangladesh school textbooks: The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus is starting to change the history of Bangladesh. The interim government is making changes in school textbooks. The change involves removing the text material related to Bangladesh founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter and former PM of the country Sheikh Hasina. While the mention of Sheikh Mujib was removed from the books, India’s contribution to Bangladesh’s independence has also been reduced.
It mentions India’s role, but a lot of pictures related to it have been removed. Apart from this, the protests in 2024 in new books were introduced as a revolution. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s power, the right -wing interim government sitting in governance is making many changes in the country and changes in the curriculum are also a part of this link.
441 changes made in school books
According to the report of Indian Express, the Ministry of Education in Bangladesh formed a team of 57 experts. This team made many changes in 441 school books. All these books are used in primary, secondary and higher secondary schools. After the change, more than 40 crore new books have been printed in Bangladesh. The main reason behind changes in books seems to be removing Sheikh Hasina and her father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from books. Apart from this, an attempt has also been made to show India’s role in the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war.
Indira Gandhi’s picture missing from book
After a change in books, two pictures of Sheikh Mujib and Tatkali Indian PM Indira Gandhi were removed from the book of Class 6. Mujib is giving a speech in a photo and Gandhi is sharing the stage with him. At the same time, the second photo is from March 17, 1972, when Mujib has welcomed Indira Gandhi at Dhaka Airport. At the same time, the photo of Sheikh Mujib along with other leaders of the world has also been removed.
Apart from this, it has removed the national flag and the national anthem from the first page and included many leaders of a liberal war (freedom struggle of Bangladesh).
Pakistan’s surrender picture remains intact
The 1971’s surrender has been retained in the chapter titled ‘Pakistani Bahini Antamosamarpan O Amodar Bijoy (Pakistan Army Surrender and our victory) in class 5 books. However, it was expected to be removed from the book, but let it be from some experts.
