Bangladesh Violence Latest News: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reached Bangladesh on Monday (9 December 2024). This was the first visit by a senior Indian official after the overthrow of Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina’s government in August. His visit was said to be in view of the increasing attacks on Hindus there.
After reaching Bangladesh, Vikram Misri held separate meetings with the Interim Government’s Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Advisor Mohammad Tauheed Hussain and his Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Jashimuddin. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, in these meetings the Foreign Secretary reiterated India’s support for a stable, peaceful, progressive, democratic and inclusive Bangladesh.

According to the information, during the bilateral talks held in these different meetings, the Foreign Secretary also raised India’s concerns related to the security of minorities in Bangladesh and many other issues including relations between India and Bangladesh. 1. Provincial and Global Issues
During the conversation, Vikram Misri raised the issue of unfortunate attacks on cultural, religious and diplomatic properties in Bangladesh. During the Foreign Office Consultation, both sides discussed extensively on many issues. Both sides agreed to strengthen regional cooperation under the BIMSTEC framework.
2. Attacks on Hindus and minorities
During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary also raised the issue of violent attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, increasing incidents of vandalism and arson at religious places. Expressing concern over this, he talked about ensuring the safety of minorities.
3. Issue of arrest of Krishna Das
It was told that in his meeting recently, Vikram Misri also raised the issue of arrest of Krishna Das associated with ISKCON and the atrocities being committed on him. He also appealed to look into the case of Das’s arrest impartially. However, media reports say that Bangladesh reacted strongly to this and called this issue an internal matter of Bangladesh.
