Bashar al-Assad fled Syria and went to Russia on December 8.
An attempt has been made to kill former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, living in Russia. According to British newspaper The Sun, 59-year-old Assad fell seriously ill on Sunday. He was suffering from severe cough and difficulty in breathing. After this the doctors examined him.
After the test, the presence of poison in his body was confirmed. According to the report, his condition improved on Monday and now he is in better condition.
Meanwhile, Russian officials are busy finding the culprit involved in poisoning. However, no official confirmation has been made by the Russian authorities regarding this incident.
Bashar al-Assad is in Moscow with his family after last month’s coup in Syria. Russia has granted political asylum to the Assad family and arrangements have been made for their stay in an apartment.
Big claim of former Russian spy The online account General SVR, run by a former Russian spy, was the first to claim that Bashar al-Assad had fallen ill. However, who poisoned Assad has not been revealed yet.
Reports claim that Russian officials, including Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, were briefed about the incident. Since then, an investigation is underway to find out how Assad came in contact with the poison.

Last month, it was revealed that his wife Asma wants to return to Britain but due to the expiry of the validity of her passport, she will not be able to return to London. Asma was born in London in 1975 to Syrian parents. He holds dual citizenship of Britain and Syria.
According to reports, Asma Al-Assad is suffering from a serious illness. Asma has blood cancer i.e. leukemia. Doctors have said his chances of survival are only 50%. There are reports that she is undergoing treatment in Moscow.
British-born Asma Al-Assad was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. After treatment, he declared himself cancer free. At present, he is being treated by keeping him in isolation. Asma married Asad in December 2000. Asma and Asad have three children, named Hafiz, Jean and Kareem.
It has also been claimed in many reports that Assad had sent 270 kg of gold and 2 billion dollars (17 thousand crore rupees) to Moscow before leaving the country on December 8.
