Happy to end her seven-year wait for her century in international cricket, Indian batsman Jemimah Rodrigues on Sunday said the mindset and methods adopted from her Under-19 days helped her reach the feat.
Thanks to Jemima’s innings of 102 runs, India scored 370 runs for five wickets in the second women’s ODI and won over Ireland by 116 runs. After scoring her first century in any format of international cricket, Jemima said in the post-match press conference, “It feels great.” I was waiting for this for a long time. I am happy that I could do it for the team today.
He said, “I have played many century innings in Under-19 cricket and have also scored 200 runs there. In such a situation, I was trying to do the same thing that I used to do at that time. I was successful in doing this well today.” Jemima had made headlines in 2017 by scoring unbeaten 202 runs for Mumbai against Saurashtra in the Under-19 Women’s ODI competition.
She usually bats at number five but in the absence of regular captain Harmanpreet Kaur, she got a chance to bat at number four. He took advantage of this by hitting 12 fours in his 91-ball innings.
