In IPL 2025, you must have seen ‘Robot Dog’, which remains the center of attraction this time. Even during the toss, this robot is seen with the captains on the ground. This robot dog is named Champak Robot Dog. But due to its name, the BCCI has received a notice from the High Court. Let us tell you what is this whole matter.
Let us tell you that Champak is a children’s magazine, which Delhi publishes the press letter. This publication has filed a petition against the BCCI in the Delhi High Court. The question has been raised in the name of Robot Dog Champak.
Why BCCI received notice on named Robot Dog Champak
It has been alleged that the BCCI has violated its registered trademark by calling Robot Dog Champak. On this, Justice Saurabh Banerjee has issued a notice on the case filed. The next hearing in the court on this will be on 9 July.
Quoting advocate Amit Gupta representing the Delhi Press, the Bar and Bench wrote in its report, “The AI equipment is named Champak. IPL is running. The product was introduced earlier, but it was named on 23 April based on voting of fans.”
Gupta said, “My magazine is known for animals characters. Let us consider the product separate, but its use is harming. It is weakening.” Gupta argued that the advertisement and marketing of the product is sufficient to show commercial abuse. He said, “IPL is a commercial enterprise.”
Why came Virat Kohli’s name in the middle?
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s name also came in between. This is because he is called ‘Chiku’, and Chiku is also the name of a character. The court said that the publisher can earn royalty by going against Kohli’s use of Chiku surname. However, Gupta said that the cricketer is not launching any product. If he does so, it will be commercial abuse.
Advocate J Sai Deepak, appearing for BCCI, said that Champak is the name of a flower. People are looking at it by connecting it to a vessel in the TV serial and not from the magazine. It has to be seen what happens about this in the next date.
