Benjamin Netanyahu testifies in court against corruption charges as Israel Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday (December 10) stood in the dock and testified for the first time in the corruption case against him. This incident is historic because it is the first time in Israeli history that a sitting Prime Minister has testified as a defendant in a criminal trial. During his testimony, Netanyahu presented his views in a relaxed manner in the court and termed the allegations as baseless.

Testifying in a Tel Aviv court, Netanyahu said he had been waiting for this moment for eight years so he could tell the truth. He vehemently denied the allegations and said that his statement would destroy the prosecution’s case. Netanyahu presented the events in his own way, declaring himself innocent and also shared some things about his personal life with the court. He told about his habit of smoking cigars, but also said that he hates champagne.

Netanyahu called the allegations baseless

Netanyahu is accused of promoting the personal and business interests of media businessmen in exchange for positive coverage for himself and his family. Apart from this, he is also accused of taking cigars and champagne from a billionaire Hollywood producer. Despite these allegations, Netanyahu called them baseless and false.

Controversy over Israeli army’s incursion into Syria

Israel bombed military bases in Syria on Tuesday (December 10), after which Syrian officials claimed that Israeli forces had entered the country. However, Israel denied these allegations and said that its soldiers were present only in the buffer zone. Israel says that it carried out these attacks with the aim of protecting Syrian weapons from the enemies. After this incident, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and Saudi Arabia condemned Israel’s intrusion and accused it of violation of international laws.

Controversy increased at international level

Israel’s incursion into Syria has given rise to controversy at the international level. Syrian officials saw it as a new Israeli military strategy, while many Arab countries reacted strongly against it, considering it a serious accusation. This incident has further increased the tension in the Middle East where there is already a conflict between Israel and Syria.
