Why Team India lost the drawn Test in Melbourne: The fourth test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has ended. The Melbourne Test, which started from 26 December, was played for five days, in which India had to face a crushing defeat. The fourth test match was very exciting. This is because some part of the match was in favor of Australia and some part was in favor of India. But the Melbourne Test match ultimately went into Australia’s hands.
After India’s crushing defeat, people have started looking for the reason behind it. The Melbourne Test was going to be a draw, but the discussion has intensified as to why India had to lose this match. In such a situation, know who was the biggest culprit of the defeat of Melbourne Test.
Know who was the biggest culprit
In the first session of the second innings of the Melbourne Test, 3 wickets had fallen for 33 runs. After this Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal took over the innings. The second session was completely in India’s favor. This is because no wicket fell in the second session. Now it seemed that the Melbourne Test would be a draw.
After this, till the third session, Australia had also accepted that this test match would be a draw. This was the reason why Australia gave the ball to Travis Head. Then Rishabh Pant planned to hit Travis Head for a six, due to which Rishabh got trapped in Head’s net and was directly caught by Mitchell Marsh.
After the dismissal of Rishabh Pant, Indian batting completely collapsed. Suddenly wickets started falling. In such a situation, Rishabh Pant’s meaningless shot became the reason for Team India’s defeat. He was held responsible for the defeat on social media.
Pant had made such a mistake in the first innings also
On the third day of the Melbourne Test, Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant played an irresponsible shot. Pant tried to scoop the ball from Scott Boland, but the ball went high in the air and Nathan Lyon took an easy catch at third man. Gavaskar, who was commentating during this period, had called it a disappointing moment for the team.
Gavaskar had described Pant’s shot as ego-driven. He said, “I had no problem with his first shot. But on the next ball he repeated the same attempt out of arrogance. I have also played such shots in my career in an attempt to show the bowler. But Test cricket is not easy.”
