Melbourne Test Yashasvi Jaiswal DRS Controversy: The fourth test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has ended. Which was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground for five days from 26 December to 30 December. India had to face a crushing defeat in the Melbourne Test series. After which, now Australia is leading 2-1 in the five-match Test series being played between India and Australia. The fourth Test match may have ended, but the Melbourne Test is now surrounded by controversies.
What is the whole matter?
Debate has erupted over the controversial dismissal of Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on the last day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. When Jaiswal was batting on 84 runs, wicketkeeper Alex Carey caught the ball of Australian captain Pat Cummins coming from the leg side. Field umpire Joel Wilson rejected Australia’s appeal, but after DRS, third umpire Saikat Sharafeddaula declared Jaiswal out. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla has strongly criticized this decision.
Rajiv Shukla supported technology
Saikat Sharafeddaula ruled on the basis of visual deflection despite no edge being seen on the Snico. On this, Rajeev Shukla tweeted, “Yashaswi Jaiswal was clearly not out. The third umpire should have listened to technology. There must be a solid reason to overturn the field umpire’s decision.”
Yashaswi jayaswal was clearly not out. Third umpire should have taken note of what technology was suggesting. While over ruling field umpire third umpire should have solid reasons. @BCCI @ICC @ybj_19

Great cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also criticized this decision. He said, “The deflection could be an optical illusion. If technology is there, it should be used. “A decision cannot be taken on the basis of visual evidence alone.”
Simon Toffle’s support
However, former umpire Simon Taufel justified this decision. He said, “When the deflection of the ball from the bat is clear, there is no need for any other technique. The third umpire did the right thing and gave priority to the visual evidence.”
