Sanjay Manjrekar Asks Why Rohit Sharma Out: Before the Sydney Test, Indian cricket fans got a big shock. This shock came when the news came that captain Rohit Sharma was out of the decisive match. This news proved to be true when Jasprit Bumrah came on the field in place of Rohit during the toss. In this match being played under the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), Shubman Gill was included in the team in place of Rohit, while KL Rahul opened with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Rohit Sharma has scored only 31 runs in five innings so far in this series, but the reason behind his not playing was not clearly told to the fans. When stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah came on the field during the toss, a question arose in the minds of the fans that where is Rohit?
At the time of the toss, Jasprit Bumrah said, “Our captain has decided to rest. This shows the unity of our team.” However, former cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his displeasure as to why Rohit’s absence was not clearly discussed during the toss.
Sanjay Manjrekar on Star Sports said, “I am surprised why Ravi Shastri, who was conducting the toss, did not question it. This secretive attitude has become common in Indian cricket. The fans should be told the truth. Rohit Sharma has played 62 Test matches. When he is suddenly out, the fans want to know what happened.”
He further said, “Officially it has been said that Rohit has decided to rest. But this is incomprehensible. This is the same player who did not play in the first Test and did not even play domestic cricket before the New Zealand series. If If anyone needs rest, it is Bumrah, who is playing continuously.”
Sanjay Manjrekar said that this match is very important for India. Not only to retain BGT, but also to make it to the finals of the World Test Championship.
Australia is leading 2-1 in this five-match series. India cannot win this series. But he can draw the series by winning the fifth test. Whereas, to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia will have to win or draw only the last Test match. Sanjay Manjrekar said, “Our cricketers are brilliant, but we often lag behind in telling the truth to the fans. This secrecy is the biggest problem of Indian cricket culture.”
