Assam Police on Friday seized 11,100 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine worth Rs 2 crore from a vehicle in Cachar district.
Codeine is made from opium and morphine, hence people use cough syrup made from it for intoxication. Earlier, while talking to the media in Guwahati on Wednesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had told that in 2024, the police seized drugs worth Rs 682.44 crore and other drugs.
CM Sarma said, “In 2021, the police seized Rs 420.17 crore, in 2022 Rs 784.55 crore, in 2023 Rs 742.09 crore and last year i.e. in 2024, 183 Kg heroin worth Rs 682.44 crore.
Last year, the police had seized 22,776 Kg, 114 Kg of opium, 33.07 lakh intoxicating pills, 14 Kg of morphine and 2.30 lakh cough syrup bottles.

Faiz Ahmed Kidwai appointed Director General of Civil Aviation Directorate
Faiz Ahmed Kidwai was appointed Director General of Civil Aviation Directorate on Friday. He is a 1996 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre. Before this he was Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture. His appointment was made on the orders of the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet.
At the same time, 1998 batch IAS Akash Tripathi of Madhya Pradesh cadre has been relieved from the Ministry of Electronics and IT and appointed as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Energy.
