Canada election 2025: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a sudden election in the country on 28 April 2025. He cited the policies of US President Donald Trump and the threat created by him behind this decision.
It is clear from the statement of Prime Minister Carney that the relationship between Canada and America has become tense. These two countries are now face to face on many issues. Carney, who replaced Justin Trudeau as the leader of the Liberal Party in March, started his election campaign with a strong message against negative politics and opposing American tariff. He called it one of the most important elections in the recent history of the country.
Carney will contest from Napian
Carney will contest from the Napian constituency of Ottawa. He pledged to support farmers and businesses amid growing trade war with America. They said,
“Our country needs decisive action.” He vowed to stand against Trump’s tariff and strengthen Canada’s economy.
Attack on opposition
Targeting his opponents, Carney said, “When you have never made anything yourself, it is easy to be negative about everything.” He further said that negativity can neither win business war nor can the Canadian citizens help them in their home and education expenses.
The main contest in the election Liberal vs. Conservative
The election campaign will run for 5 weeks, in which 343 parliamentary seats will be voted. However, the main match is expected to be between Mark Carney’s Liberal Party and Pierre Polyvere’s Conservative Party. Whoever gets a majority in Parliament, will form the next government.
Trump’s resentment with the rhetoric
Donald Trump has claimed many times that Canada should become the 51st state of America. Apart from this, he has also imposed tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, which will be effective from April 2. These comments of Trump have strengthened the nationalist spirit in Canada, which has strengthened the position of Carney in the election.
