Canada visa rules: Canada has made a big change in its visa rules since February 2025, which will affect thousands of students, workers and migrants, especially on Indians. The new rules give unlimited powers to the Border Officers of Canada to change the visa status of students, workers and other temporary residents.
Under Canadian new immigration and refugee protection rules, Canadian border officials now have the power permit, student visa and temporary residence visa (TRV) to reject or cancel. These officials can decide whether the person is ready to leave the country after the end of the authorized migration in Canada.
Impact of new rules on Indians
Canada has been a major destination of Indian students and workers. According to government data, more than 4.2 lakh Indian students are currently getting higher education in Canada. These new rules can prove challenging for those Indian students, workers and migrants who are planning work, studies or permanent residences in Canada.
What will happen if the visa is canceled?
If the visa of a student, laborer or migrant is canceled, he will have to leave Canada within a fixed time limit. If a person is already residing in Canada and his permit is canceled, he will be given notice to leave the country.
Indian students studying in Canada
Currently 4.27 lakh Indian students are studying in Canada. This number is increasing every year, which makes Canada a major educational destination for Indian students. Last year, a visitor visa was released to 3.65 lakh Indians, which is a proof that Indian citizens consider Canada a major option for education and employment.
Canadian government move
The Canadian government has taken this decision to increase its border security measures. Their purpose is to strictly follow the rules of temporary resident visa and study permit, so that visa conditions cannot be misused. This step will further strengthen Canada’s border security and immigration policy, which has tightened visa processes.
