Chinmay Das News: Bangladesh Samit Sanatan Jagran Jot spokesperson and Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das will appear in Chittagong court on Thursday for bail hearing in the treason case.
Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 25 and has been in jail since then. The demand for justice for them is increasing.
The bail plea, supported by 20 lawyers from Dhaka and Chittagong, has highlighted the allegations in the false and fabricated case. Lawyers argue that Das, who suffers from diabetes and respiratory problems, has been unfairly detained. His lead lawyer Ravindra Ghosh was earlier barred from filing the anticipatory bail plea.
ISKCON Kolkata has expressed hope for a fair result. ISKCON spokesperson Radharaman Das reaffirmed support for Chinmoy Krishna Das and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. The organization is praying for their safety and justice.
Earlier on December 11, a Bangladesh court had rejected Das’s preliminary bail plea due to procedural flaws. According to reports, the petition was rejected due to absence of valid power of attorney and lawyer.
The case took a new turn when one of Das’s lawyers, Subhashish Sharma, could not attend the December 3 hearing due to security reasons. Prosecutor Mofizul Haq Bhuiyan said the earlier proceedings were hampered due to lack of proper documentation and legal representation. Meanwhile, India has demanded a fair and transparent trial, stressing the need to respect the legal rights of all concerned.
Advocates and supporters hope the court will take into consideration the saint’s deteriorating health and the procedural irregularities that have plagued the case so far.
