Chinmay Das Bail Update: The bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna Das was rejected by the Chittagong Court of Bangladesh. Now Chinmoy Krishna Das’s lawyers are preparing to go to the High Court. 11 lawyers of the Supreme Court had gone today i.e. on January 2 to represent the bail hearing of Chinmay Krishna Das. According to the report of Daily Star, the judge rejected the bail plea after listening to the arguments of both the sides for about 30 minutes.
The legal team led by advocate Apoorva Kumar Bhattacharya had gone to defend treason accused Chinmoy Krishna Das, who is accused of insulting the national flag of Bangladesh. Speaking to Daily Star ahead of the hearing, lawyer Apoorva Kumar Bhattacharjee said, “We have come to Chittagong under the banner of Aingiby Oikya Parishad. We will file a petition in the court for Chinmay’s bail. I have already received the power of attorney from Chinmay. “I am a member of both the Supreme Court and the Chittagong Bar Association, so I do not need permission from any local lawyer to file a case.”
What is the allegation against Chinmoy Krishna Das?
The unrest in Bangladesh started after treason charges were filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das. Chinmoy Krishna Das is accused of hoisting the saffron flag over the Bangladeshi national flag. After the violence started, protests started on the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna on 25 November. In this connection, violent clashes took place between Chinmay’s followers and law enforcement outside the Chittagong Court building on November 27, resulting in the death of a lawyer.
Two monks were also detained
The situation became worse after additional arrests. According to ISKCON Kolkata, two monks, Adipurush Shyam Das and Ranganath Das Brahmachari, were detained on 29 November. They were taken into custody when both of them had gone to meet Chinmay Krishna Das in custody. Along with this, ISKCON Kolkata Vice President Radha Raman also claimed that the rioters also vandalized ISKCON in Bangladesh during the violence.
