Delhi Elections: The battle cry for Delhi Assembly elections has started, on 5th February the voters of Delhi will exercise their franchise and on 8th the world will know in whose hands the people of Delhi have handed over their political future for the next 5 years? The Aam Aadmi Party, which won unilaterally in the last two assembly elections in Delhi, seems to be struggling in the upcoming elections. The ruling party seems to be on the backfoot on issues like unfulfilled promises, corruption and Sheeshmahal.
On the other hand, the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has been away from power in Delhi for the last 26 years, wants to end this exile by any means, perhaps this is the reason why this time there is a change in the strategy of BJP regarding Delhi Assembly elections. For the first time after a long wait of about 2.5 decades, BJP feels that it can end this drought of victory, that is why the party has made changes in the election issues.
First for 15 years, Congress and then for about 10 years, Aam Aadmi Party occupied the chair of Delhi. Both the parties reached out to the public regarding the issues and the public also gave their approval. This time, the Bharatiya Janata Party has changed its old strategy and started focusing on the issues related to the people of Delhi instead of national level issues. BJP is busy cornering Aam Aadmi Party on issues like electricity, water, roads, liquor vends, Sheeshmahal, insult to ancestors, Sanatan etc., with which the public has a direct connect.
BJP ready to defeat Delhi?
This time a big change is being seen in the strategy of BJP regarding Delhi elections. BJP, which often contests assembly elections on the basis of PM Modi’s face and national issues, is focusing on local issues. Of course, apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP does not have any other big face who can compensate for it, hence PM Modi himself has taken charge of the campaign in Delhi.
PM Modi’s direct attack on Kejriwal
PM Modi has addressed two rallies in Delhi so far and in both the rallies, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal was the target of PM Modi. PM cornered Kejriwal on Sheesh Mahal, liquor scam, corruption, cleaning of Yamuna, pollution, contaminated water, electricity, bad roads.

focus on local issues
Bharatiya Janata Party has focused more on local issues than national issues in the Delhi Assembly elections, so that Arvind Kejriwal can be easily cornered. BJP has tried to woo a large section of the society by providing houses to the slum dwellers. If it comes to power, everyone will get permanent houses instead of slums. Along with regularizing Kutchi colonies, better options for waste management, BJP is also reaching out to the public regarding environment and clean water.
BJP can promise 300 units of free electricity
According to information received from sources, for the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP can announce 300 units of free electricity for every household and 500 units of free electricity for religious institutions every month. Also, like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, a scheme for women can be announced in Delhi also. Prime Minister Modi has already announced that no welfare scheme running in Delhi will be stopped.

Making the public aware of the benefits of central schemes
BJP is also going among the public and making them aware about the welfare schemes issued by the Central Government. BJP is giving full emphasis on the promotion of those schemes which have been implemented by the Center across the country but which have been banned by the Kejriwal government, due to which the people are deprived of the benefits of the Central schemes. This includes schemes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission.
Making plans targeting voters
BJP has started planning for Delhi elections by targeting voters, perhaps this is the reason why BJP does not want to let go of the issue of insulting Purvanchalis. The entire BJP is attacking Arvind Kejriwal on his statement of fake voters and is raising it loudly by calling it an insult to the corrupt. It is possible that this issue will also be heard in the upcoming election rally of PM Modi.

Activism on social media
BJP also seems to be very active on social media for Delhi elections. Every day new posters against the ruling party and statements given by Aam Aadmi Party leaders are being shared on social media and made available to the public. Kejriwal is being surrounded with words like anti-Sanatan, anti-Hindu, anti-Purvanchal.
However, how successful this strategy of BJP will prove to be in the Delhi elections will be known only on February 8, but after this, it is certain that the fight in Delhi will not be easy for the Aam Aadmi Party. On one side, BJP is on the other side and Congress is trying to uproot AAP. Due to being in power continuously for 10 years, Aam Aadmi Party may also have to face anti-incumbency wave.
