Cricket Jihad in Ind Vs Aus Test Match: As soon as the fourth match of the Test series between India and Australia ended, it turned towards controversies. A scuffle broke out when third umpire Sharafuddaula declared Yashasvi Jaiswal not out after being declared not out by the ground umpire. Sharafuddaula is Bangladeshi and his decision is being called ‘Cricket Jihad’ on social media.
What actually happened was that on the last day of the match (30 December), the Indian team needed 340 runs to win. While chasing the target, India’s great batsmen failed, but Yashasvi was successful in playing big innings. The way Jaiswal was playing, it seemed that he could save the Indian innings and leave the match at a crucial juncture.
Yashasvi faced 208 balls and scored 84 runs, which included 8 fours. Yashasvi was caught out by Pat Cummins at the hands of wicketkeeper Alex Carey. It was from here that the game of dishonesty of Australia and ‘Cricket Jihad’ of Bangladeshi umpire started. Yashasvi was not given out by the ground umpire. But third umpire Sharafuddaula (Bangladesh) overturned the decision after the Australian team took DRS.
No spike seen on snickometer but still given out
Australia took DRS after the ground umpire gave not out. Replays showed no spike on the snickometer, but Bangladeshi umpire Sharafuddaula overturned the decision on the basis of deflection. Now the question is that when the third umpire was not completely sure, he should have gone with the onfield umpire. Sunil Gavaskar looked very angry with the decision of the third umpire. Gavaskar said if technology has to be used then why are such decisions given.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla looked angry with this decision. Rajeev Shukla tweeted, ‘Yashaswi Jaiswal was clearly not out. The third umpire should have paid attention to what the technology was indicating. The third umpire should have solid reasons at the time of overturning the decision of the field umpire.
Australia got 2-1 lead in the series
The fourth match of the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024 between India vs Australia was played in Melbourne. India’s worst performance so far was seen in the run chase of 340. Australia all out the Indian team on the score of 155. With this, Australia has won the match by 184 runs and has taken a 2-1 lead in the series.
