Documents like NRC needed to identify infiltrators: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said there is a need to prepare documents like NRC (National Register of Citizens) to differentiate between Indians and infiltrators. Speaking to media persons after visiting the Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha, Himanta said that the Assam government on Wednesday decided that anyone who wants to get an Aadhaar card will have to register their name in the NRC.

He said that if the applicant’s name is not in the NRC then he will not get the Aadhar card. Himanta said, “I want documents like NRC to be prepared so that we can easily identify who is an Indian and who is an infiltrator.” He said that fencing the Bangladesh border in Assam and West Bengal is difficult because There are rivers in many such areas. However, he said that the border can be secured using technology. Assam Chief Minister said, “The central government has started technical initiatives in Assam and Tripura. To implement this, there is a need to amend the Constitution with two-thirds majority in both the Houses of Parliament. He said that the Prime Minister will definitely do this.
