Russia-ukraine war: In the Middle East of US President Donald Trump, envoy Steven Witchoff said on Friday (March 21, 2025) that Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky has roughly admitted that Ukraine would not be able to join NATO.
In an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Vitkoff said that Jailonski and Ukrainian President’s Office chief Andrey Yermak have largely accepted that they are not going to be members of NATO. Vitkoff said, ‘If any peace agreement is going to be done then Ukraine cannot be a member of NATO. I think this is largely acceptable ‘.
‘Elections will be held in Ukraine’
The messenger also claimed that the Ukrainian leadership had agreed to hold elections but he did not give any details. When Karlson asked whether elections will be held in Ukraine. Vitchoff said, ‘Yes, they will agree to it. There will be elections in Ukraine ‘. The presidential election was expected to be held in 2024 but it was postponed due to the country’s martial law which is in force from the onset of the ongoing struggle with Russia. A month ago, Trump called Jailonski an election dictator.
‘Expect permanent peace this year under Trump’s leadership’
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday held a ‘very good’ conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Jailonsky on the phone for an hour. A day after talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin, he had this phone talk with Jailonsky. Jailonsky later said that he believes that permanent peace can be achieved this year under Trump’s leadership.
According to media reports, the White House said that possible American ownership at Ukraine’s nuclear power plants was also discussed. However, later Jailonsky said that it was only about Russia -occupied Japorijia plant. The call of the call seems to be different from last month when the Ukrainian President had a fierce debate with President Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the White House. For the first time, the two leaders interacted on Wednesday after a meeting in the Oval Office. However, since then the teams of the two countries have met in Saudi Arabia and have negotiated the proposed 30-day ceasefire.
‘Ready for partial ceasefire’
The ceasefire proposal has the support of Ukraine and the United States but after a conversation with Trump, Vladimir Putin rejected an immediate and full ceasefire in Ukraine. He only agreed to stop attacks on energy structure. During a conversation with Trump, Jailonsky said that he is ready for a partial ceasefire, including stopping the attacks on energy structures, rails and ports. The Ukrainian President warned that if Moscow violates the terms of the ceasefire, his country would retaliate.
