Manu Bhaker Khel Ratna Award: The name of shooter Manu Bhaker, who won 2 medals for India in the Paris Olympics 2024, has not been included in the list of athletes receiving the Khel Ratna Award. A media report has revealed that neither the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) nor Manu Bhakar himself had applied for this award. Let us tell you that Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is the highest honor given to a sports athlete in India.
According to TOI, Manu Bhaker’s family wanted to apply for the Padma Shri award, which is the fourth highest civilian award in India. Padmashree award is given for meritorious work in different fields. Some sources quoted by The Times of India said, “Manu Bhakar wanted to apply for the Padma Shri award, but someone needs to tell her parents that the process is different. If Manu has forgotten to do so, then NRAI will have to be informed.” “An application should be made on their behalf.”
NRAI President gave clarification
Clarifying on this issue, NRAI President Kalikesh Narayan Singh said, “It is the responsibility of the athlete to apply. However, when we saw that his name was not in the list, we contacted the Sports Ministry and demanded that Manu Bhakar’s name be included in the list.” The name should be in the Khel Ratna award list.”
Let us tell you that the names of Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and high-jump para athlete Praveen Kumar have also been recommended for Khel Ratna. Let us remind you that Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete to win two different medals in the same Olympics.
