England Squad ICC Champions Trophy 2025: England has announced its team for the Champions Trophy 2025. Champions Trophy will be organized in the months of February and March next year. England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the 15-member ODI team. This team will play the ODI series on the upcoming Indian tour and this team will also play in the Champions Trophy. The captaincy of the team has been handed over to Jos Buttler. Meanwhile, England’s Test team captain Ben Stokes has not been selected for the 50-over tournament Champions Trophy.
Joe Root will be returning to the ODI team after almost a year, who was last seen playing 50-over matches in the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup. Talking about Ben Stokes, he recently suffered a hamstring injury during the Test series against New Zealand. For this reason, Stokes has neither been selected for the ODI series against India nor for the Champions Trophy. Fast bowler Mark Wood did not play in the recent series against Pakistan and New Zealand. He will also be making a comeback in the England team.
Jos Buttler will captain
Under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, England failed to create history last year in the 2023 ODI World Cup and then in the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite this, Jos Buttler has been successful in retaining the captaincy. It is possible that Buttler may not keep wickets in the Champions Trophy because apart from Phil Salt, two wicketkeeping options have been included in the team in the form of young Jamie Smith.
