Ursula Von Der Leyen came to India on a two -day tour on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Union (EU) president Ursula Von Der Leyen met on Friday. It was decided that by the end of this year, India and the European Union would sign the free trade deal.
The talk started 17 years ago on the world’s biggest trade agreement between India and EU. In 2013, this conversation stopped due to the separation of the expectations of the two sides. It was resumed in June 2022. It will now be finalized by the end of this year.
India will host the India-EU summit by the end of this year. Regarding this, Prime Minister Modi said, ‘Today we have decided to create courageous and ambitious roadmaps to pursue India-EU partnership ahead of 2025. It will be launched at the next India-EU summit.
PM Modi said- both sides ready for further conversation
After talks with Ursula, Prime Minister Modi told the media that both sides are committed to advancing the security agreement and the changes that are happening across the world to increase the investment.
He said, ‘We have prepared a blueprint for cooperation in the fields of trade, technology, investment, innovation, green growth, defense, skill development and mobility. We have instructed our teams to create a free trade agreement by the end of this year, which is beneficial for both sides.
Apart from this, the two leaders have also decided to increase the defense cooperation. Especially in the Indo-Pacific region. Ursula said that the European Union wants to increase security and defense with India in the same way as Japan and South Korea.
EU president said- need to increase defense cooperation in sea and space also
Von Der Leyon said that the time has now come for India and European Union (EU) to increase security and defense cooperation in land, sea and space.
Amidst China’s growing activities in the Indian Ocean region, he said that it is “lifeline of global trade”. Its safety is necessary not only for India, but for the whole world.
