India-China Bilateral Relations: On one hand, India is continuously getting bad news from its neighbor Bangladesh, on the other hand, it is also getting some good messages from another important neighbor China. The sourness in the relations between India and China for the last few years has now started going away. In fact, there have been good dialogues between these two countries in the last few months. Now in this sequence, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry is going to China on a two-day visit.
It was told by the Indian Foreign Ministry on Thursday that Vikram Mistry will be on a visit to Beijing on 26-27 January. On October 21 last year, an agreement was signed between the two countries regarding efforts to reduce tension. Under this, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also visited China in December. Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry’s visit is also regarding efforts to reduce tension under this agreement.
What issues will be discussed?
Issues like cross-border cooperation and exchanges are likely to be discussed during Mistry’s visit. This includes resumption of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, sharing of data on cross-border rivers and border trade. China is putting pressure on India like starting direct flights and issuing more visas for Chinese citizens. At the same time, India is trying to get China to come out clearly on the construction of its hydropower project in the lower reaches of the Yarlung Jangbo river. By the way, China has already assured that this project will not affect the water flow in the low-lying coastal areas of India.
