Former South African great Allan Donald said on Monday that it should not be surprising if players start skipping league and even international matches due to the physical stress caused by the impact of busy schedules in the current era.
Before the third season of ‘SA20’, South Africa has to play an important series of two test matches against Pakistan. In this series, qualifying for the final of the World Test Championship would be at stake but many of its important bowlers are injured.
Bowlers like Anrich Norkia (toe fracture), Lungi Ngidi (groin injury), Gerald Coetzee (groin injury), Nandre Berger (stress fracture in lower back) are injured and Lizard Williams was not included in the team. Has gone. Keshav Maharaj and Viaan Mulder, who made their place in the team, have also recently recovered from injury.
Donald said in a conversation organized by ‘SA20’, ‘It is disappointing to have injuries to great bowlers. This happening with Anrich Norkia and some other bowlers is not an ideal situation for the team. He is such a bowler who bowls at a speed of 155 kilometers per hour and also swings the ball.
Donald, who was one of the best fast bowlers in the world in his time, said, “Unfortunately it (players getting injured) is a part of this game. I would not be surprised if many players leave a league or tournament and maybe Don’t play every tournament even for your country.
“It’s a constant cycle, unfortunately it’s hard to stop the level of stress it puts on the body,” Donald said. This situation, however, is a good thing for new talent and that is what we want to see.
Donald will also serve as the brand ambassador of ‘SA20’ and as the bowling coach of the Durban Super Giants. He said that this T20 league to be held in South Africa has the potential to leave behind Australia’s Big Bash League.
He said, “You have successful leagues like Big Bash League and IPL. These are very big in themselves. ‘SA20’ is only a month long league but it has the potential to overtake the BBL. This means a lot for South Africa and its domestic cricket.
