New Delhi, March 17 (Language) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) termed the Karnataka government’s proposal to give four percent reservation to Muslims in government contracts on Monday as “unconstitutional adventure”.
The BJP said that it will struggle against it at all levels till the move is withdrawn and will also challenge it in court.
Earlier, on Friday, the State Cabinet approved the amendment of the Transparency (KTPP) Act in the Karnataka public procurement, under which four percent contracts of up to Rs 2 crore and four percent of goods/services up to Rs 1 crore will be reserved for Muslims.
BJP MP Tejashwi Surya, who represented Bengaluru South Lok Sabha seat, said in a press conference held at the party headquarters here, “The BJP strongly opposed the proposed unconstitutional move and demands that the Siddaramaiah government take back the proposed unconstitutional audacity immediately.”
BJP MPs from Karnataka PC Mohan, Brijesh Chauta and CN Manjunath were present on stage with Surya at the press conference.
Surya alleged that the decision of the government-led government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is a “thought-up” step to please Muslims on the instructions of the top leadership of the Congress, especially Rahul Gandhi.
Surya alleged that the move aims to provide “financial strength” to the banned PFI’s “ecosystem and unemployed people”.
Surya said, “Perhaps for the first time in the country, a government that claims to be secular in nature is encouraging conversion in the state.”
He said, “This is clearly unconstitutional and prima facie illegal act, which will be challenged in court. The BJP will fight against the move on the roads inside and outside the assembly. We will also raise this issue in Parliament and oppose it outside Parliament. ”
Surya alleged that this move of the Government of Karnataka is a threat to national unity, integrity and sovereignty.
He said, “We will oppose this move inside the court. We will take this fight among the people of Karnataka. The BJP’s fight will continue until this unconstitutional step is withdrawn. ”
Surya said that various courts, including the Supreme Court, have repeatedly stated that reservation on the basis of religion is “unconstitutional and is not allowed”, Bhim Rao Ambedkar had strongly opposed the idea of giving reservation to minorities on the basis of religion.
He alleged, “Since the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru (the first Prime Minister of India), the Congress has continued to prioritize the appeasement of Muslim minorities at the cost of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC).”
Surya also termed the Karnataka government’s budget as “unconstitutional”, which proposes various welfare schemes for Muslims in the state and said that the BJP will raise the issue in Parliament and oppose it in the state assembly.
“We will legally challenge it in court,” he told reporters. We will ensure that this tremendous tamper with Babasaheb Ambedkar’s constitution is dismissed and eventually failed. “
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently presented a budget for 2025-26 in the state assembly and made several announcements for various fields, including repair and renovation of Waqf properties, Rs 150 crore for the security, infrastructure and security of Muslim cemeteries.
The Chief Minister also proposed an action plan for the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Minority Colony Development Program with a outlay of Rs 1,000 crore in this financial year.
Surya alleged, “What is the minority area and why should a budget allocation of Rs 1,000 crore be done for it?”
