AUS v IND: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has played down concerns over Virat Kohli’s struggles with balls outside the off-stump in Australia, giving full support to his long-time teammate. Said on Tuesday that great players of modern times decide their own path.
On this tour of Australia, Kohli has scored five, 100 not out, seven, 11 and three runs in five innings. During this period his average has been 31.50 runs. Rohit, who himself is going through a bad phase, is hopeful of regaining his rhythm. When asked a question about Kohli’s struggles, he answered with a smile on his face.
What did Rohit say on Kohli’s poor form?
When a journalist asked Rohit that would you like to give advice to a great player of the present era who is going through a bad phase or leave him to his situation. The Indian captain said-
You yourself said that he is the great player of the present era. The great players of the present era decide their own path.
Kohli-Rohit practiced vigorously
Kohli was one of the earliest batsmen to attend the net practice session at the MCG and Rohit was the last among the leading batsmen to practice. The Indian captain played only two shots in the last 20 minutes and allowed the rest of the balls to go behind the wicket. He was seen trying to control his old habit of attacking the ball.
During practice, Rohit asked the bowlers, especially Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna, to bowl in the line of the fourth stump. During this, someone among the approximately 500 fans present there said-
Rohit bhai, hit the bridge.
Sharp answer to the question of batting order
When Rohit was asked about his batting order, he said a little irritably –
do not worry about this. I think we should discuss within the team about who will bat where. I don’t have to answer this question in every press conference.
Kuldeep-Why choose Tanush over Akshar?
When asked about the selection of Tanush Kotian in place of Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in the team, the Indian captain once again replied in a cheeky manner. He said with a big smile on his face-
Kuldeep does not have a visa.
Rohit again told that Kuldeep has not completely recovered from the injury. He said-
Akshar has just become a father. I am not saying that Tanush is a bad bowler, but he is here as an option.
