HAL was given the contract for making small satellite launch vehicles by ISRO and ISRO.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has achieved the contract for making India’s Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). HAL has been given this contract by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACE).

With the introduction of this contract, HAL has become India’s third rocket making company. Earlier, only startups like Skyroate Aerospace (Hyderabad) and Agnikul Cosmos (Chennai) are working to make rockets.

How did HAL get the contract?

Bangalore -based company HAL has achieved this contract by bidding a bid of Rs 511 crore. The race to achieve this contract also included Alpha Design of Bengaluru and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) of Hyderabad. At the time of signing on HAL contract, he will give a part of Rs 511 crore, the rest will pay in two years.

For the contract, six out of 9 companies were selected in the first phase and then in the second phase HAL, Alpha Design and BDL were finalized. After this, a committee of experts chose HAL as the winner. The committee also included former Principal Scientific Advisor Vijay Raghavan.

Now what will HAL do next?

For the next two years, ISRO will transfer HAL technic to SSLV. During this time HAL will have to make two prototype rockets and use ISRO supply chain. However, HAL cannot make any changes in its design.

However, after two years HAL can choose your own supply chain and seek ISRO advice to improve the design. The company’s target is to make 6 to 12 SSLV rockets every year, which will depend on the market demand.

What is SSLV?

The small satellite launch vehicle is a small rocket, which can carry satellite up to 500 kg in a 400-500 km high low-end orbit. This rocket is low -cost and allows early launch, which is very useful for small satellites.

Why special for India?

This contract is a major step towards increasing the participation of private companies in India’s space sector. India currently holds only 2% share in the Global Space Economy, but is the target to carry it up to $ 44 billion i.e. 3.81 lakh crore rupees by the next decade. This step of HAL will help India strengthen the global level at small satellite launch.

Hal’s achievement

HAL already makes defense products such as fighter jets and helicopters. Now along with SSLV, the company is also making its place in the space sector. This step is not only for HAL, but also for India’s space sector, which will further strengthen private and government cooperation.

HAL shares rose by 1.18%
