Questions related to promoting these apps were asked through advertisements on Exterited Sonu Sood and Urvashi Rautela.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has questioned former Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, actor Sonu Sood and Urvashi Rautela in a case related to the promotion and money laundering of online betting apps.
According to the ED, these celebrities were associated with advertisements of banned betting platforms such as 1xbet, fair play, revolving and Lotus 365. The NDTV Profit has given this information.
Tax loss of ₹ 27,000 crore annually
- Tax Los: In the investigation of the case, ED estimated that due to these apps, India is getting a tax loss of Rs 27,000 crore annually.
- Money Laundering: In the case of Fairplay app, ED found that four companies sent Rs 13,000 crore abroad on the pretext of import.
- Mahadev Betting App Connection: Apps like 1xbet and Fairplay worked as a assistant platform of Mahadev Betting app. Their promoters were operating from Dubai.
These people were questioned
- Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina: These cricketers, who played an important role in winning the World Cup to India, are accused of being involved in the advertisements of the betting app. The ED examined their ad deal, payment source and advertisement content.
- Sonu Sood: Actor was associated with the promotion of platforms such as 1xbet sporting lines. His advertisements introduced these apps as reliable apps. Who is going to mislead consumers.
- Urvashi Rautela: Urvashi Rautela is accused of promoting apps like 1xbet and Lotus 365. She has also been in controversies over the advertisements of Mahadev Betting App earlier.
- Other celebrities: The ED also questioned Telugu actors such as Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj and social media influencers, who were associated with apps like DAFABET and BETWAY.
The QR code reaches users on betting sites
According to the report, these betting platforms are using serogate names such as 1xbat and 1xbat sporting lines in the advertisement. Advertisements often contain QR codes that directly redirect users to these betting sites, which is a violation of Indian law.
According to an ED official, it is a violation of several Indian laws including the Information Technology (IT) Act, Foreign Exchange Management Act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act, and Benami Transactions Act.
Promotion as a skill based game but result luck
The ED official said that notices have already been issued to some famous celebrities, while others are likely to be issued notices soon. ED officials said that these platforms promote themselves as a skill -based game, but give the results based on luck. For this, these platforms use rigged algorithms.
