App-based cab drivers from Hyderabad have announced that they will keep the cab AC closed from today during the journey. This is being done in protest against the wrong policy of fixing the fare of companies like Ola, Uber and Rapido. Earlier, cab drivers have boycotted airport rides.
The cab driver union is demanding that companies adopt a similar fare policy like prepaid taxi fare prescribed from the state government. Union president Sheikh Salahuddin said that there is a difference of about Rs 300 to 400 in the fares of taxi service providers and prepaid taxis.
Apart from this, the earnings are reduced even further due to the long wait of the return ride (usually 3-4 hours) and 30% of the 30% to the taxi service providers at the airport. The union has done a similar ‘no AC campaign’ in April 2024.
Drivers argued that it costs Rs 16-18 per kilometer when AC is operational. At the same time, drivers earns 10-12 rupees per kilometer when AC is closed.
Case of discrimination in online taxi booking reached Parliament Earlier, the matter of collecting separate fare from iPhone and Android users on cab companies like Ola and Uber has reached Parliament. The central government told Parliament on March 12 that the matter has been taken seriously and investigation has been started.
Companies are alleged to have been charging more fare than iPhone users, while Android users get the same ride cheaper.
A survey in January also revealed that different prices were seen on both operating systems for a single ride. Experts are calling it a case of ‘dark pattern’. This may include non-perfect changes, forced recovery and hidden fees in prices. Doing this is illegal under the consumer law.
