Virat Kohli vs Sam Konstas: There was a collision between Virat Kohli and 19-year-old Sam Konstas in the fourth Test between India vs Australia being played in Melbourne. A video of this incident is also going viral on social media. There was a heated argument between the two, after which the umpires intervened and made the atmosphere peaceful. But the question is whether ICC can give any punishment to Virat for hitting Sam Constance. Let us know which is the ICC rule under which Kohli can be found guilty.
First of all, let us know what happened on the field? Actually, Jasprit Bumrah was bowling in the 11th over of the innings. Debuting Australian star Sam Constance was hitting big hits not only on Mohammad Siraj but also on Bumrah’s balls. In such a situation, during the 11th over, Virat Kohli was moving towards Constus while clearing the ball, when both of them collided. After watching the video carefully, it is seen that Virat himself was moving towards Constance after picking up the ball, when both of them collided.
What does the ICC rule say?
Article 2.1 of the ICC rules states that a player can be punished if he makes inappropriate physical contact with a player, player’s support staff, umpire, match referee or any other person on the field. Such incidents have happened before in the history of cricket and if we look at the history, Kohli will not get any punishment like ban or suspension of one match. However, the match referee can definitely cut their match fees or give demerit points as punishment.
