T20 World Cup Final Suryakumar Yadav Catch: The International Cricket Council has recently changed many rules. From stop clock to saliva, there has been a change in the rules on the use of saliva and DRS. Meanwhile, the rule of catch taken on the boundary has also been strictly done. Actually, the rules that have been caught by jumping the ball outside the boundary have been strict. On this day last year, India won the 2024 T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa by 7 runs. In that match, Suryakumar Yadav also caught a catch near the boundary. Whether Surya’s catch was illegal under the new rules, understand the whole matter here.
The new ICC rule says that a fielder can go across the boundary and touch the ball only once while staying in the air. The catch will be considered complete only when the fielder came inside the boundary and caught the catch. Whereas the old rule says that a fielder could go across the boundary several times in the air and touch the ball.
So was Suryakumar Yadav’s catch was illegal
South Africa was to score 7 runs in the last over in the final match of the India vs South Africa T20 World Cup played on June 29, 2024. David Miller was set on the crease, so he increased the heartbeat of Indian fans. But on the very first ball of the over, Miller put an aerial shot, but Suryakumar Yadav caught a catch while running near the boundary.
Suryakumar Yadav, while running inside the boundary, had bounted the ball in the air and completed the catch after coming inside the boundary again. Surya did not touch the ball even once by going across the boundary, while the new rule of ICC allows the fielder to touch the ball once in the air outside the boundary. So Suryakumar Yadav’s catch was completely clean.
