IND vs AUS Test Series: Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood may have to miss the remaining matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India due to a right calf injury suffered during the third Test. Cricket Australia gave this information on Tuesday.
Due to injury, Hazlewood will no longer be able to play further in the Brisbane Test, which has weakened Australia’s bowling attack. Cricket Australia said in a statement, “Josh Hazlewood has suffered a strain in his right calf, due to which he will not be able to play further in the Brisbane Test against India.” He may have to stay out of the remaining matches of the Test series.
Thirty-three-year-old Hazlewood was able to bowl only one over on the fourth day when he had to leave the field. He spoke to captain Pat Cummins, Steve Smith and physio Nick Jones before leaving the field. Hazlewood was later subjected to scans to determine the severity of the injury. “He’s very disappointed,” Australia assistant coach Daniel Vettori said in a press conference after the day’s play.
“(He) felt it in the warm-up this morning, he gave a good effort, it’s unfortunate for him to get injured again. “After another side strain injury and a calf strain here, it’s very difficult for him.”
Hazlewood was ruled out of the second Test in Adelaide due to an arm strain. Hazlewood was replaced by fast bowler Scott Boland, who was in the Australian eleven for the Adelaide Test. Boland is expected to return to the Australian XI for the final two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.
Vettori said, “Obviously, it looks like Hazlewood will be out.” He said, “I think Boland’s performance strengthens his claim.” I mean the way he bowled in Adelaide, the way he has been a consistent back-up fast bowler and every time he has been given a chance, especially in Australia, he has done brilliantly so I think it’s It is logical to draw conclusions.
